Giorgos Tsapaliaris was born in 1976.He lives and works in Athens.
In 1995, he attended freehand drawing courses at the studio of K.Argiri, and since 1997 he has been involved to oil painting.
From 2001 to 2003, he collaborated in a shared studio with the future iconographer Vasili Sofikiti, focusing on the study of composition and color. Since 2018, he has been engaged in the creation of printmaking works and the exploration of printing techniques.
❝.. my work is about creating unique images. The medium is the language of printmaking,of oil colors,of inks ... Rhythm, composition, contour, and the imperfection of the human gesture are my tools. The entire effort concerns the illustration of the visible as perceived by the eye. I am convinced that everything deserves to be seen anew. Each piece, self-contained and independent, embodies my aspirations. After being exhibited, it will find its own viewer, willing to engage in a dialogue with the pictured image. In order to achieve this, I pursue for the representative-ness of things. I eliminate theatricality, idealization, moral lessons, and complex narration. Technically, I exploit the dogmatism of black and white and the elegance of the outlined color. Ultimately, each work manages to be unique , even when reproduced from the same matrix. ..❞
